Hey Y'all!
When I think back to my first memory, it was definitely around 4 or 5. That made me think about what I would tell that wide-eyed, innocent, full of life little girl if I had the opportunity. Here are 10 things that I would tell myself:
1. Life will not be fair. But, don't let that stop you from being the good person you know you are.
2. Go at your own pace. NEVER and I mean NEVER compare your journey to anyone else's. Comparison really IS the thief of joy! It can steal you of moments that genuinely should be celebrated so don't even start,
3. Stay true to yourself. I know this statement might sound "loaded" because it is going to take you a while to figure out WHO
you are and WHAT you stand for. You will figure it out though, and once you do, stay true...especially during those difficult times. And yes, my dear, there will be difficult times.
4. This should have been #1 on the list. Prayer is the most important gift you have been given. Cherish that gift. Persevere in that gift. On good days, pray. On bad days, pray. Never stop praying because it will get you through your most heartbreaking moments.
5. Remember that nothing lasts forever. During those storms, take heart, this too shall pass. On the other hand, during the blissful times, know that nothing lasts forever so make sure you always have a grateful and appreciative spirit. Why? Because this too...shall pass.
6. Find your tribe and love the HECK outta them! Female friendships/relationships are just as important as romantic/intimate ones. Many times it will be your tribe who remains long after 'what's his name' has exited the scene.
7. Don't worry about who does or does not like you. The truth is, most people don't even like themselves. Love who loves
YOU.
8. Quality is so much more important than quantity...and this is in regards to every aspect of your life.
9. Do NOT major in the minors, Overthinking will absolutely
NOT make things better. What it can do is rob you of your current happiness. 85% of the stuff you obsess over will never happen anyway.
10. No one is responsible for making you happy but
YOU! That is too important of a job to delegate to anyone else.
The above mentioned maxims would specifically need to be mentioned to me because, what I didn't know then (obviously), is that I would grow up trying to figure out how to be "normal", "like everyone else", "regular". That then would lead me to become a people pleasing, no boundary having, confused person...until I wasn't. Yet, it was those in-between moments of refinement that allowed me to find clarity and strength.
What a mouthful! So. what would you tell your younger self? Comment below and let me know.
